Top Media Joins the One-Blue Licensing Program for Blu-ray Disc™

/PRNewswire/ --  One-Blue , LLC, today announced that Top Media Inc. has joined the One-Blue Blu-ray Disc™ (BD) product licensing program as a licensee, having signed a BD ROM Disc License Agreement. Top Media, a disc replicator based in City of Industry, Calif., will have access to important patents essential to the Blu-ray Disc™ standard from leading licensors, including Cyberlink, Dell, Fujitsu, Hewlett-Packard, Hitachi, JVC Kenwood, LG Electronics, Panasonic, Pioneer, Philips, Samsung, Sharp, Sony, Taiyo Yuden and Yamaha.

"The addition of Top Media further expands the roster of Blu-ray Disc™ replicators that have signed on to the One-Blue licensing program," said William Lenihan, Director of IP Licensing of One-Blue. "We're happy to be able to extend access to essential BD patents to Top Media as a result of this decision to join the One-Blue patent pool."

One-Blue administers the licensing program for patents essential to Blu-ray Disc™ products and is the joint licensing agent of its licensors. For hardware and software products, the product license covers Blu-ray Disc™, DVD and CD essential patents; for disc products, the product license covers Blu-ray Disc™ essential patents.

There are several Blu-ray players that play DVD-A. All Oppo Blu-ray players and several from Denon/Marantz and at least one from Yamaha. All of those also play SACD. Just do a search for each company with Blu-ray DVD-A to get the various model numbers. I have the Oppo BDP-80 and BDP-83 and can recommend Oppo but all Blu-ray players that use MediaTek have a problem with clipping the opening note or two on some songs on some discs if you skip forward to tracks. I know all Oppo players use the MediaTek chip. I haven't noticed the issue the way I play DVD-A, I don't skip tracks very often and it is rare enough and benign enough that I had to read about the issue to know it exists. Reading about the BDP-95 at Steve Hoffman's Forum there are reports that the BDP-95 does not have the issue with truncating the first few notes of the problem DVD-As. I don't have the player to confirm and the situation should be exactly the same with the BDP-93 so maybe it won't be an issue at all with the...
