I have Bravia KDL 403 40in LCD TV can i use a normal amplifier for the surround sound? do i need a suround amp?

Hi, I know the sony bravia 403 has built in surround sound, so this could be plugged into a normal external HiFi amp, will this work or do i need a surround sound amplifier to get surround sound through external speakers? Thanks in advance

i have almost same tv get a surround amp unless you just want to hear audioin 2 channel stereo Surround amps are not that expensive invest more in good speakers too!
