Christmas gift suggestion: Sound Dock
18.05.12
With music moving from CD to iPods, mobile phones and "the
cloud," there's a great gift out there for any hardcore music
lover: a sound dock.
The docks -- there are dozens on the market -- provide a
mini-sound system for the portable devices. Just set the phone or
iPod in the slot, push play and you've got music. That's a whole
lot easier and far more portable than setting up a wireless
delivery of tunes from the computer to the home stereo system.
At the high end of the price range (such as a $400 Bose), the
docks sound as good or better than a far larger stereo system. The
mid-level docks also tend to have very good sound. At the lower
end, well, you get what you pay for. So try to take a listen to the
dock before you buy it.
Another piece of advice: Make sure the dock you are considering
is compatible with the devices that will be used to provide the
music. Some docks, for example, are optimized for iPod but not
iPhone. Again, it's better to check when you're buying than have to
return it.
